Our aunt treated us to lunch at Fanny Chadwick’s, a neighbourhood joint with delicious food and an ethical method of sourcing their food.
We ordered poutine, a Canadian dish of french fries, gravy and cheese curds, to share.
The warm winter salad was amazing! With roasted potatoes, Brussels sprouts and mushrooms, cardamom brined bocconcini, candied radish and mixed greens.
Tomiko ordered the daily soup, a green pea soup with coconut milk, with the daily sandwich, which consisted of a freshly baked biscuit and peameal bacon wrapped in an omelette.
I got the triple decker grilled cheese sandwich, made with St. Pauline and Gouda cheese, jalapeno and caramelized onion, on sourdough bread. The bread itself had a grana padano crust. Mmm! It was served with a green salad, and I couldn’t finish the whole dish.
And lastly, the fish sandwich with onion rings. The onion rings were light and crisp, totally not stodgy or greasy. The sandwich itself, made with cod, was served on challah bread with slaw, tomatillo relish and habanero mayo. What a sight to behold!
We ordered mussels and the Finnish waffles, but those were consumed before I could take photos!
