On a sunny Tuesday afternoon, we drove into Oak Bluffs on Martha’s Vineyard. We were delighted to stumble upon these adorable gingerbread cottages!
There was a small area of the town that was packed full of adorable, beautiful, whimsical cottages. The style is called ‘Carpenter’s Gothic,’ complete with intricate details in pretty colours. They drew tourists as an attraction even in the late 1800s, and I can see why.
These cherished cottages are often passed down generation through generation. I wonder how much it would cost to actually buy one!
We were there in springtime, at the height of the spring blossoms, including perfumed lilac and wisteria.
Puppy!
We wandered around and found a beautiful little circle, no cars, surrounded by tiny gingerbread cottages. It was like a Rundling, a form of circular village, the best preserved of which are located near our Oma’s village in Germany. All the houses are built in a ring, facing a central green. We were delighted to find such a formation in Martha’s Vineyard!
The spindles and railings were cut and carved into different shapes, painted in different colours.
I can imagine this neighbourhood to look just as inviting in the winter, with smoke coming from the chimneys. I wonder if the residents live here all year round. I will return one day!
These houses are adorable. I’m sure you were in heaven there.
For sure! I want to live there some day!
So cute! This reminds me so much of Cape May, NJ. It is so charming and sweet!
