During the lovely Toronto summertime, our family created a new tradition where we have appetizers and drinks on the patio on Friday evenings after work. By the end of the busy work week, we’re tired and may not have seen each other at all! Friday evenings on the patio are a great chance to relax, catch up, and gear up for the equally-busy weekend!

Southern Accent is just off Bloor Street in Mirvish Village, a neighbourhood that includes the iconic Honest Ed’s, as well as art galleries, vintage stores and restaurants.

The restaurant specializes in Cajun and Creole cuisine, meaning that we get to sample tasty treats like hush puppies, gumbo, jambalaya, and blackened fish or chicken. They offer bourbon tastings, and even a tasty green cocktail called Gator Bait. To shake things up a bit, they also put a Cajun spin on a Quebecois favourite, poutine.

Our lovely server Wendy told us that Southern Accent is celebrating its 30th anniversary, and to mark the occasion, they are releasing a cookbook. Tomiko and I are planning to order one. Drop by or email the restaurant to get your own!

  1. […] For this year’s birthday, I wanted to go somewhere different.  New cuisine, new neighbourhood, new ambiance. With Donatello’s brilliant suggestion, we decided to try the Pravda Vodka Bar. We arrived early for Happy Hour, which is one of our family’s favourite tricks for eating out, like we always do here. […]
