Toronto Eats: Birthday Dinner at Pravda Vodka Bar

For this year’s birthday, I wanted to go somewhere different.  New cuisine, new neighbourhood, new ambiance. With Donatello’s brilliant suggestion, we decided to try the Pravda Vodka Bar. We arrived early for Happy Hour, which is one of our family’s favourite tricks to save while eating out, like we always do here.

After we sat down and ordered our martinis, we barely had time to enjoy the outrageous and decadent decor when a complimentary order of crispy mozzarella arrived.

We immediately downed the Soviet Apple Martini and the Perestroika, a cassis-flavoured concoction. Delicious but mainly juice; we’d made the classic beginner’s mistake! Even with Donatello and my ten combined years at sea, where drinking is the way of life, we didn’t read the menu properly. We soon got down to business and found our favourite, the gin martini. Yes, we knew that it was a vodka bar, but drinking anything but gin in a martini is just not right in our opinion.

Soon afterwards, our appetizers arrived. They were perfect for the occasion: indulgent tidbits designed to soak up the birthday drinks. Clockwise from the top right: mini cabbage rolls, meatballs in tomato sauce, warm cheese and spinach dip, and sliced sausage.
