I learned to drink beer, of all places, at summer camp. I worked in the kitchens of a big summer camp for two summers during my undergrad years. I loved it up there: the lake, the camaraderie, the cabins. Once a week, the camp staff would take turns going to ER (evening recreation), that is, a trip to the bar. The camp was in a provincial park and was water access only, so we would take the boat to the main road, then climb aboard a schoolbus that would take us to a nearby bar. The head staff didn’t want their counselors coming back to the kids drunk, so we were only allowed to drink beer. I prefer sweet, fruity cocktails, but that first summer, I learned to drink beer. Out of necessity, you see.
I don’t drink much, but I want to be a good host and serve drinks when I have guests over. So I recently started stocking my pantry with alcohol and mixers, like strawberry vodka, cinnamon bourbon, raspberry shrub, gingerale, some beers and wine, iced tea, and cranberry juice.
The next step is to get glasses in which to serve these drinks! I have a fair amount of mugs, teacups and pretty water glasses, but no proper whiskey glasses, wineglasses, or beer glasses! The glasses above are some simple yet beautiful pieces I’ve got my eye on. Until then, visitors will just have to be content drinking whiskey out of teacups.
Whisk(e)y out of a teacup ?
I ‘ve never been that desperate..
