Ryan, Sami and I drove from Toronto to visit a friend in New Brunswick. Being such a long trip, we stopped overnight in Quebec City and set out to find dinner. On our way to the Chateau Frontenac, we found a delicious supper at Le Billig Creperie-Bistro in Quebec City.
Ryan, Sami and I each had a crepe. As per French cuisine, the savoury crepes were made with nutty, smokey buckwheat flour. My crepe enveloped melted Swiss cheese, oyster mushrooms and spinach. Sami’s had asparagus, and Ryan’s crepe had bacon and potatoes. All the crepes were delicious and filling, with the salty melted cheese complementing the buckwheat.
For dessert, I ordered the kouign amann, which is Amelie’s signature dish from the movie Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain. I was expecting just a sweet dry, little pastry, but I was blown away by what arrived: a warm, flaky, caramelized confection served with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream. It was spectacular, and each bite was better than the last. I need to make this myself!
