Meinhilde, Donatello, and I had heard about this great antique place near Peterborough, on our way home from Whetung Ojibwa Centre. Except that when we tried to visit Craftworks, we went to the wrong place. Well, it was still the same famous Barn, but we went into the wrong entrance. Expecting delights similar to the Aberfoyle Antique Market, we found brand new Mennonite furniture and cottage country decor instead. As usual, we were too shy and too dumb to ask about the antiques.
Later we found out that we had only seen the upper floor, which housed all the new items. The basement, accessed through the entrance on the other side of the Barn, is where all the antiques are so neatly and orderly displayed. Craftworks is the cleanest and most organized antiquing experience we’ve ever had. No musty smells or strange stains, everything is in pristine condition and well-labelled.
I suppose these photos focus on dishes (I was searching for gifts for Meinhilde’s birthday this month), but there is also furniture, clothes, old comics and magazines, and a range of other delightful treasures.
I highly reccommend Craftworks if you’re in the area – it is such a great place to find gifts. Just be sure to find the correct entrance in the first place.
