One of our new favourite traditions in Toronto is going for hanami. For the second year, we’ve trekked to the packed but beautiful High Park for hanami, or cherry blossom viewing. This year was much hotter and the crowds seemed bigger but hanami has definitely become a symbol that spring in the city is really here.
Meinhilde is on vacation again in Utah, so I had to find someone else to accompany me to High Park. Karlos is not typically interested in flower viewing, but one mention of the new baby reindeer at the High Park Zoo was enough to convince him.
The sakura, or cherry blossoms, were in full bloom and glorious.
It was a hot day. The animals were out of their huts and keeping cool by relaxing in the shade. The capybara, as always, confused us as to which other animal it resembles the most: a guinea pig, beaver, or hippo. What do you think?
The magnolias were gorgeous.
The llamas were freshly shaven and seemed to be the most comfortably cool of of all the animals. Their tails were left bushy for a comedic, poodle-like effect.
The baby highland cow was born at the zoo about four months ago. He had quite he milk mustache afterwards!
The new reindeer! Not even two weeks old, we were so lucky that this cutie was up front by the fence so all of us could get a good view.
