I openly admit that I hate tidying up and am a borderline hoarder. Mix those qualities into a tiny downtown apartment and the result is a disastrously messy home. It drives Donatello, a naturally neat person, nuts. I heard about The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing and the title immediately caught my attention. Since it was spring, I figured a good read about tidying up might inspire me to actually do some spring cleaning this year.
Firstly, this book is cute. The size, font, and layout are all adorable and so classically Japanese. Marie Kondo’s childhood stories of obsession with tidying up her parents’ house and her classroom at school were entertaining but curious. What a crazy kid to constantly clean and purge both her and everyone else’s possessions!
Marie’s descriptions of the objects within our homes having feelings were charming and at times hilarious. Her explanation of socks detesting to be rolled up in tight balls like stressed potatoes made me laugh out loud on the subway during my morning commute.
The most important question to ask is, did this book work? Well, I was completely inspired to declutter my life, but unfortunately as of writing this, I have only managed to donate one bag of old clothing. I have so much more work to do!

I haven’t read the book. Am I the only one on the planet who hasn’t??
But I enjoyed your review. Good luck on more de-cluttering!
I love the title! I haven’t come across this book but it sounds like I need to! I have a lot to declutter, good luck with further decluttering adventures!
