Our family ordered this Saudi fruit juice whenever we went out for shawarmas – the classic fast food we ate in Saudi Arabia. Now shawarmas are commonplace in Canada, but when we moved to Riyadh in 1996, they were brand new to us. The shawarmas were only SR 5 (less than $2.00) each, and are a pita wrap filled with sliced chicken roasted on a vertical spit. As a kid, I would forgo the pickle and veggies, but include the super-garlicky mayonnaise and thick-cut french fries inside the wrap!
We would order this Saudi fruit juice with our shawarmas. Once we got hooked on it, we would buy plastic jugs of it instead of individual cups. Thankfully Tomiko and I figured out the recipe after years of testing – the guava juice is the secret ingredient. Paramount Fine Foods offers the closest thing, and you can get the deluxe version with pistachios, almonds, chopped fruits, and ashta cream.
love guava! looks so amazingly refreshing!
That looks delicious. It is hard to imagine having things other than burgers and fries for fast food! What a cool experience to have!
Looks refreshing! Thanks for sharing!
