I made this McCall’s M7193 gathered surplice blouse in a pink rayon challis print.
I combined the bodice from View B with the sleeves of View C, since I’m not a fan of long sleeves and I don’t want to wear a sleeveless blouse to work. I also did not smoothly ease the sleeves into the armhole, but I don’t mind the slightly gathered look.
I sewed this up in a size 16, and though the shoulders fit, the front is indeed loose-fitting as it says on the pattern envelope. There are no closures on this blouse, but the next time I make it I might try and narrow the front surplice pieces a bit. I found there was some excess fabric gaping and that I needed to wear a camisole underneath to prevent me from flashing people at work!
This was the second time I sewed with rayon challis, and I’m getting the hang of it. It is indeed more ‘bouncy’ than the fabrics I’ve sewn with before, but the softness of the drape feels lovely to wear.
I love how your shirt turned out. I’d love to make this pattern myself. Thanks for sharing at this week’s Inspiration Spotlight party. See you again soon. Pinned & shared.
Great fabric print colors and choice! I’ve made tops before where I have to be careful because my shoulders are small so the front just droops on me or the pattern was much lower cut than I expected. Like you, I’m thankful for camisoles!
Cute – Thanks for sharing on the Pleasures of the NW’s DIY party
