We picked up a Dufflet tiramisu cake for Karlos’ birthday last month. Last year I made him a chocolate turtle birthday cake, but this year he didn’t want a homemade one and the only alternative to a homemade birthday cake is one from Dufflet! Dufflet Pastries is a local bakery chain that has three locations throughout Toronto. During Toronto Bike Month in May, there is even a cycling event that calls on all three locations for a little pick-me-up – a tiramisu.
Karlos gave me free range to choose a birthday cake for him from the almost 50 flavours of cakes, pies, and cheesecakes available. Since Ryan and I had just come back from Italy, and Karlos always loved coffee-flavoured desserts, I ordered a nine-inch Dufflet tiramisu cake.
Dufflet managed to create all the classic flavours of tiramisu in cake form – luscious marscapone cream, coffee-soaked sponge, and an ample sprinkling of cocoa powder. The whole family really enjoyed this sweet and creamy Italian-inspired cake.
