Sue’s No holes Hexagon Baby Cardigan by Susan A. Coes is a free pattern on Ravelry. To make this little hexagon baby cardigan for our Kiku Corner Etsy shop, I used a 4.00 mm hook and Classic Elite Yarns Song in the Willow colourway. In total, I used 3.5 skeins, or about 350 m, of the soft cotton-wool blend.
The pattern uses a rather genius construction; instead of a top-down sweater like the Gina cardigan, this is made in two pieces. A floppy, oversized crochet hexagon forms left side; an identical one forms the right. When folded, these create the cardigan halves, which are seamed at the back and at the tops of the sleeves. Then, the collar, button band, and cuffs are crocheted in single crochet. Once all the ends are woven in, the sweater needs to be blocked to even out the stitches and align each side.
I’m not really sure why this is called a ‘no holes’ cardigan, as each corner of the hexagon has holes which form a nice pattern when folded. It is a very popular pattern, as over 600 little hexagon baby cardigans were made and posted on Ravelry. The free pattern is available here.
The cardigan is for sale on our Etsy shop here.
That’s gorgeous! Love the color.
This is so cute. It makes me want to take up crocheting.
Love the colour as well-my daughter just had a baby and is into gender neutral colours for her girl.
That is so cute!
