This is the Garden Party Cardigan by Marly Bird. I crocheted it with 1.5 skeins of Diamond Luxury Collection Pima Lino Lace that I bought at Romni Wools, one of our favourite yarn shops. Here, I’m wearing it with my vintage style pleated skirt from Peppermint Magazine.
I made the size large using a 4.0 mm hook to get gauge. The cardigan works up in one piece, starting with the back, going up and over the shoulders and then down the front. Then I added the lace edging along the neckline and front opening. I found that the cardigan was easy to make since I could memorize the stitch pattern. However, since it is only one piece, sometimes it was difficult to maneuver (especially on the plane!).
I made the Garden Party Cardigan over my vacation in Morocco. Most of it I did on the plane and during one day in Marrakech where Ryan played harmonica and I crocheted.
I used a lace-weight yarn and a 4.0 mm hook to get gauge. After I was about halfway done I realized I had enough yarn to hold it double to approximate the specified fingering weight yarn. I was too lazy to undo it, so I kept going! Since I did this in a laceweight yarn, the cardigan is quite airy and lightweight. It’s still feels great, but the scalloped edging isn’t as pronounced as in the pattern photos.
Once I finished the crocheting, I sewed the side seams and under-arm seams with mattress stitch. I’ve worn this cardigan several times already. It’s a great way for me to wear sleeveless tops and dresses to work! It’s light and airy and a perfect item to wear during the summer.
The Garden Party Cardigan pattern is available on Ravelry.
Also, check out the Cross Creek Hat I made last year, also designed by Marly Bird.
This is a beautiful cardigan! And even better that it is a weekend project. I have added the pattern to my wish list.
