Eiskaffee is a classic German summertime drink that combines Kaffee und Kuchen and dessert! It’s been on menus ever since I was a kid, and similar drinks are only now becoming popular here in Canada. I was drinking these way before I ever heard of Iced Capps or Frappuccinos! As a kid, though, I didn’t like the coffee flavour, so I would have Eisschokolade, which is the same thing, but with chocolate milk instead of coffee.
You can brew coffee especially meant for this and chill it down with ice cubes. Or you can just use leftover cold coffee from your morning pot.
The Eiskaffee looks best in a clear glass so you can see the coffee, ice cream, and whipped cream. So try to serve Eiskaffee in a tall milkshake glass. Unfortunately I don’t have one, so I used this other glass (also German) instead.
Eiskaffee - Iced Coffee with Ice Cream
Ingredients
- 1 scoop vanilla ice cream or chocolate ice cream, or coffee ice cream
- 1-2 cups cold brewed coffee
- 2-3 Tbsp whipped cream
- 2-3 tsp chocolate syrup
- cherry for garnish
Instructions
- Place the scoop of ice cream in a tall glass.
- Top up with the cold coffee. It might not all fit, depending on the size of your glass.
- Add a dollop of whipped cream, and drizzle over the chocolate sauce. Top with a cherry.
- Serve with a straw on a summertime patio!
Coffee is my favorite drink & I’ve never heard of this, but I can’t wait to try it. Pinning! My kids would really like the chocolate milk idea to.
It looks so cool and refreshing! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
