I generally have trouble selecting patterns for my next project, but the Ginkgo Crescent free pattern is an easy choice. I love little shawls and find I wear them the most out of all my knit projects. Also, I love knitwear that works outdoors as well as indoors. The free pattern by Jade Keaney is straightforward and the lacework creates a beautiful ginkgo leaf border.
Meinhilde and I were visiting Romni Wools and saw the Ginkgo Crescent as a sample in the sunniest happy yellow yarn. The pattern is free on Ravelry, and is knit top down in stockinette stitch for at least three quarters of the shawl, after which the ginkgo pattern begins.
The yarn for this shawl is a Araucania Huasco Multy Botany Lace from the basement of Romni Wools on Queen Street West. It is 100% merino wool in fingering weight. It has good stitch definition and is enjoyable to knit. The lightly variegated blue, green, purple colours are beautiful, resembling sea shells or mother of pearl.
This project uses 350 metres (380 yards) of the Araucania yarn, which is about 85% of the skein. There was enough yarn left over to make a bunch of pom poms for another project. I used circular needle in 4.0 mm (US 6).
This is so delicate and lovely. You are so talented in all you do.
