The Anja Hat is a stranded colourwork tam by Carrie Bostick Hoge. This is a free knitting pattern from Knitty Magazine, first fall 2012.
Carrie Bostick Hoge is now the co-editor of Making Magazine, a lovely magazine that publishes knitting patterns, sewing projects, recipes, and other crafts. I now have two past editions, and the new Black and White issue is out now!
To knit this hat, I used Cascade Yarns Longwood Sport in Ketchup and Silver Heather. This is a great yarn, soft and squishy, with good stitch definition. It was my second stranded colourwork project, after the Laurus Hat. I wanted to make a red beret so I used the Ketchup as the main colour, and the silver heather as the stranded contrast. Then, I made a pompom with the grey yarn, and I even made it detachable!
I used 3.75 mm wooden circular needles, but could have done with needles 0.5 mm smaller due to my loose gauge. The colourwork includes a leaflike border and the well-known eight-pointed Selbu star.
The free pattern is available from Knitty Mag here.
This warm woolly Anja hat is available for purchase in our Etsy shop.
This came out so nice! I like your color combination a lot! Pinned the pattern. Was looking at it thinking I might be able to use the basic chart to crochet in single crochet a hat… Hmm…
That’s a great idea! Let us know how it turns out 🙂
It’s so pretty, I love it!
Thank you for sharing at The Really Crafty Link Party. Pinned.
Wow, it’s beautiful, what a great pattern and it really suits you.
