The Winterlaced Hat by Yulia Tkacheva is a beautiful crochet pattern that has a basketweave insert. This makes it look like there’s a woven horizontal band that encircles the head.
To crochet this hat, I used a 3.75 mm hook and two skeins of MillaMia Naturally Soft Merino in Ice. I loved working with the MillaMia yarn; it’s soft, squishy, and is 100% merino.
I crocheted the large size, which should fit a large adult head. Due to the understated design, it would be suitable for daily wear for either men or women. To be honest, I crocheted this hat several months ago. I then only got around to photographing it back in October (when the leaves were this beautiful!). Our neighbourhood is currently covered in snow and really cold!
The Winterlaced Hat is a warm crochet beanie with a beautiful faux woven pattern. The crochet cables add a lovely texture to the winter white hat. It is also reversible! If you know how to crochet front and back post double crochets, you can make this hat! It also has a lovely set of decreases to shape the crown.
In these photos, I’m wearing the hat with my Branches and Buds Pullover by Carrie Bostick Hoge. That’s also a great pattern, but knit.
If you like the design on this hat, check out the Winterlaced Cowl. The cowl has the same basketwork motif throughout and it looks really cozy! You can buy both patterns as an e-book from the designer on Ravelry.
The Winterlaced Hat pattern is available on Ravelry.
This finished hat, crocheted in 100% merino wool, is available to purchase in our Etsy shop.
This is so beautiful, and it looks so warm. Also, I think if you made it in brown it would look like a pie crust, which is even better! 🙂 And honestly it’s nice to see those lovely leaves! You should wait to post these next year too, to bring some color to this blistery cold days!
Cute hat, it really suits you too, very clever. #RealCraftyLinkParty
It is a beautiful pattern! Thank you for sharing at The Really Crafty Link Party this week. Pinned!
This hat is gorgeous! Love the “band” that’s around near the brim – reminds me of a ribbon in a cloche. I don’t know if I have enough patience to work this in such a thin yarn, but I am loving the Rusalka Cowl!
