I used the Strange Brew recipe by Tin Can Knits to make an adult-sized, top-down Bláklukka pullover! Once again I used Briggs and Little Heritage yarn and I love how it’s knitting up. “Bláklukka” is the Icelandic word for the harebell flower. Harebells, which we have in Canada, are a pale blue. Many sweater samples I found on Ravelry used blue for the flowers. Instead, I used gold yarn for the flowers, and now the flowers kind of look like little chicks.
To knit the stranded colourwork, I used 0.75 skein of Natural White, some leftover Light Maroon from my Ar Tresins pullover, and maybe 0.2 skeins of Gold.
I chose to knit this Bláklukka as a size L on 3.5 mm needles. To start, I cast on 88 stitches and worked in rib for 1.25″. Then I increased to 96 stitches, then increased to 144 stitches. I then knit 6 rounds. Then I worked the colourwork chart for 5 rounds, omitted the next increase and just worked in Natural White. Then I continued to follow the chart.
I added an increase in the white section before the flower and then omitted the next increase from chart. To finish the colourwork chart, I knit the last row of flowers in 5 stitch repeats (with only 1 white stitch between flowers instead of 2).
To improve the fit, I worked short row shaping to bring up the back neck. I omitted waist shaping, then worked in k1, p1 rib for 2″.
I love the bright, happy colours that are reminiscent of springtime. As I was wishing for winter to be over, I started knitting this on February 1, 2019. I was able to finish this by the end of the month!
This finished Bláklukka pullover is available to purchase in our Etsy shop.
The Bláklukka pattern is available from the book Knitting with Icelandic Wool by Vedis Jonsdottir.
Always jealous of people who can create such beautiful things! I love the color you chose for this sweater!

These are fabulous colors!! I have yet to try a top down pattern. One of my knitting friends swears by them, so it’s on my list to do!!

I prefer top-down; there’s no underarm grafting, and they’re easier to fit!
So pretty, I love it! I have no idea how you can whip up these sweaters so quickly. I’m kitting a scarf for my daughter and I think she’s only going to wear it next winter..
