I started crocheting the Field Cardigan by Robyn Chachula last year. Ryan and I visited the Thousand Islands with some friends in May 2018, and this was my travel project. I had crocheted cardigans in the past (like my well-worn Chambray Jacket and summertime Garden Party Cardigan), but this time I wanted one that was a little warmer.
To crochet the cardigan, I used 2.5 skeins of Loops & Threads Woolike in Teal Lake. This is a fingering-weight yarn that is 85% acryclic and 15% nylon. I had purchased it at Michael’s quite a while ago, back when I was starting to get back into crochet. Luckily enough I had purchased enough yarn for this Field Cardigan!
The Field Cardigan is from the book Vintage Modern Crochet by Robyn Chachula. I loved the look of the filet crochet lace worked on the bias. I think this allows the sometimes stiff crochet fabric to hang a little nicer.
To crochet my Field Cardigan I used a 3.0 mm hook. The pieces are all worked separately and then seamed together using mattress stitch. Once all the pieces are sewn together, I crocheted the buttonband and neck border. I think I may have picked up too many stitches around the v-neck opening, since it doesn’t want to lie flat. Right now I’m too happy to finally be finished to go back and rip it out.
Once completed, I sewed on seven opalescent buttons that I bought down on Queen Street in Toronto. Originally I had purchased some blue buttons, but the colour didn’t quite match the yarn.

I’m amazed at your talent. I’ve never tried anything like this before but I love to see others to it.
