McCall’s M7381 is a pullover dress that has a loose-fitting, lined bodice with shoulder pleats, raised front waist, front pleated and elasticized back skirt, narrow hem, and front snap closing. The bodice has a self-fabric lining.
I sewed a size 16 of view C, which has short sleeves, front ties, and a knee-length skirt. I cut out all my fabric pieces last summer, and they just sat at my machine all winter. This spring, I finally got my sewjo back and finished up my dress!
I sewed M7381 out of a floral rayon challis fabric that I bought from Fabricland a few years ago. It’s the same multicoloured print, but a different colourway, from this dress. The dress is quite loose, but the back has an elastic to add some waist shaping. The front ties do not have function, but they are a nice detail. The front neckline has three snaps to keep it closed.
I cut out the pattern at the end of last summer, but then I lost my sewjo. I didn’t sew all autumn/winter (I was knitting instead!). This spring, I started putting it back together. As it’s been so long, I think the only modification I made was to lengthen the bodice by 1-2 cm.
M7381 is an easy, pull-on design and is loose-fitting. I didn’t do my usual FBA because the description said it was loose-fitting. Overall, there is some shaping in the bodice with gathers and darts; those front snaps are working hard! If I were to make another one, I would try and add a small FBA. The front tie is more for decoration than function, but it adds interest. There are some lovely examples if you search the hashtag on Instagram; I particularly love one made in mustard linen – perfect for summer!
The M7381 pattern is available on the McCall’s website.
Pretty! I love the fabric, it’s perfect for spring and summer.
Thank you for sharing at The Really Crafty Link Party. Pinned.
Your dress is so pretty. You did a great job on it. Such a nice fabric choice too. It’s nice when you finally get back into the sewing mode after a long break. I am washing some fabric now so thatI can sew this afternoon.

Beautiful! Both the dress design and the fabric you chose.
