Here is my latest sweater: the Telja Pullover by Jennifer Steingass of knit.love.wool.

I used Istex Lettlopi yarn that I bought in Iceland last June. I knit size F with a 45.75″ bust. Although I knit this for our Etsy shop, I knit it in my size so I could model it! Lettlopi is an aran-weight, 100% Icelandic wool yarn. It’s a single-spun yarn, but I found the yarn didn’t twist onto itself like other singles yarn might. It was fun and easy to knit, and the finished pullover has a slight halo. As with most Icelandic wool, there is the water-resistant outer coat that contains long, coarse fibres, as well as the warm layer beneath that. consists of soft, short fibres. When spun together, the yarn is extraordinarily warm and light.

Jennifer Steingass designs beautiful yoked sweaters, and I bought a few of her patterns. Many of her stranded knit yokes are reminiscent of nature, with leaves, flowers, and sheaves. This sweater includes some gentle waist shaping, but you could easily omit it if you wanted.

The pattern calls for five colours of yarn: one main colour, and four contrast colours. I decided to just use two contrasting colours to really show off that gold yarn. For the main colour, I used a light teal. It has flecks of yellow in it, which makes the colour beautifully heathered. I used just two contrast colours, white and gold. All together, the three colours make a bright and happy sweater!

In total, I used almost eight skeins of the blue (Glacier Blue), just over one skein of the gold (Mimosa), and the full two skeins of white. By the time I knit up the decreases of the yoke, I had to play yarn chicken – would I finish knitting or would the white yarn run out!? Thankfully I won yarn chicken…this time.

The sweater is knit bottom up and finished with an I-cord bind-off. This was the first time I knit I cord, and I really love the finish. It’s neat and strong but won’t stretch out and gape like a ribbed neckline might.

Perhaps my favourite part of this design are the hems. The cuff and hem edges are beautifully unique. Not only do they have a gorgeous colourwork design, but there is ribbing and a curled stockinette edge. Parts of the colourwork used three colours per row, which was a bit tricky to maneuver.

The Telja pullover is the second sweater that I knit by Jennifer Steingass. Last year, I knit the Vintersol pullover. I’ve also got her Treelight and Fern & Feather in my Ravelry queue!
