DIY: Knit Cullum Tee by Isabell Kraemer

I’ve been eyeing the Cullum Tee by Isabel Kraemer for over a year! It is part of the Linen Noir collection by Quince and Co. I added the collection to my Ravelry shopping cart and let it hang out there for a year before I finally purchased it this spring. The collection has five patterns written for fingering or aran weight linen yarn, and I want to make all of them!

As Toronto can get quite hot in the summer, and I don’t want to stop knitting, I normally switch to projects using plant-based fibres. Last year I finished the Summer Chic Cardigan by Drops Design and started the Leiden Tee by Natalie Selles. Both of these projects use different cotton-linen yarns, which are perfect for summer!

To knit the Cullum tee, I used a cotton-linen-bamboo fingering weight yarn from my stash. Bigarelle by Bergère de France is a tweedy, marled yarn that made my Cullum a bit more casual. I had purchased three skeins on sale from Romni Wools two years ago, and they’ve been sitting in my stash ever since. In total, I used just over two skeins of the yarn, or about 860 metres. I kept the top cropped so I could wear it with skirts during the summer. In total, this top cost me just $24 to knit!

Due to my loose gauge, I used 3.0 mm needles instead of the suggested 3.5 mm ones. I also cast on the 40.75″ size as I knew my gauge would be a bit looser than listed. I find the fit at this size and my gauge to be spot on!

Although this pattern is seamless and knit top-down, I had to pay close attention to the construction. First you begin with the back shoulders, which you shape with short rows. Then you knit the front shoulders, also shaped with short rows. This part also includes the small sleeves with a border. Then you knit the front lace before joining everything and knitting in the round all the way down the body. At the bottom, you knit a few more rows of lace and stockinette stitch before binding off.

The pattern instructs you to knit the bottom hem lace just on the front of the top, but I decided to knit the lace all the way around.

This took me just over a month to knit; I cast on on June 7, and cast off on July 11. Not bad for a fingering weight top!
