Kiku Corner's Gifts for Knitters

Need some ideas for gifts for the knitters in your life? Now that I’ve been knitting for a couple years, I have some suggestions! You should be able to find all of these at your local yarn shop, a farm shop, or online. This is our gift guide for knitters, but feel free to add any suggestions in the comments!

Kiku Corner's Gifts for Knitters - Stitch Markers

Stitch markers

These always go missing (at least for me!), so a knitter will always need more. Stitch markers come in so many different shapes, sizes, and colours, so even a non-knitter could choose something useful! I love locking metal markers, but I recently spotted some cat-shaped ones that I want! Any yarn store will carry a selection of stitch markers at a variety of prices. These are my top recommendation when searching for gifts for knitters.

Kiku Corner's Gifts for Knitters - Yarn Bowl

Yarn bowl

Bonus points if it’s a handmade one! The knitter in your life likely has a favourite place to sit and knit, and a yarn bowl is perfect way to keep the working yarn cakes neat and tidy. I have two beautiful, handmade ceramic ones in different styles. Wood-turned ones are also gorgeous!

A single skein of farm yarn

This is a super way to also support a local fibre farm! I recommend a skein of worsted- or aran-weight yarn, so that way one skein will be enough for a hat. Your knitter does not want to run out of yarn! Here are some of our favourite Ontario fibre farms:

Kiku Corner's Gifts for Knitters - Sheepskin

A sheepskin

I’ve got two! This is especially nice if your knitter likes working with wool. Many fibre farms will sell these, such as Rambling Yarns and Revolution Wool Company located in Southern Ontario. I keep mine on my knitting chair, and they keep me cozy during the colder months!

Kiku Corner's Gifts for Knitters - Gauge Ruler

A gauge ruler

A must-have for any knitter, especially if they like knitting garments! A gauge ruler helps your knitter know if the project they are knitting will fit. These come in a variety of materials and price points, so there’s something for every budget.

Kiku Corner's Gifts for Knitters - Project Bags

Project bags!

One can never have too many, especially if your knitter likes to work on multiple projects at a time! I recommend gifting a drawstring-style bag, since zippered ones may eat the yarn. Again, your local yarn shop should carry a good selection.

Kiku Corner's Gifts for Knitters - Wool Wash

Wool wash

Whether it’s Eucalan or Soak (both Canadian companies!), wool wash is a must when blocking newly cast-off projects. This a ‘consumable,’ meaning that the knitter will eventually use it up and need more! Wool washes are available in scented or unscented versions.

Kiku Corner's Gifts for Knitters - Embroidery Scissors

Embroidery scissors

A set of small, sharp embroidery scissors are great for snipping yarn – whether you’re trimming pom poms or snipping yarn ends. Choose a small size so that your knitter can pack it with their knitting project when on the go.

Kiku Corner's Gifts for Knitters - Darning Needles

Tapestry/darning needles

I don’t know about you, but I frequently misplace my tapestry needles! These are a must-have when weaving in ends of a finished project. Your local yarn shop will have these available in several sizes.

Kiku Corner's Gifts for Knitters - Magazine Subscription

Magazine subscription

We have a Pom Pom Quarterly subscription, and it definitely pays for itself. If a magazine has more than two or three patterns that interest you, the issue is worth it. Personally I would love subscriptions to Making Magazine, Making Stories, Laine, Amirisu, Interweave Knits, or Vogue Knitting. The latter two are quite affordable!

Tapestry/darning needle case

Maybe your knitter won’t lose their tapestry needles if they have a nice tapestry needle case! I saw a beautiful wood-turned one for sale at the Woodstock Fleece Festival a few years ago, and I regret not buying it. This one from Moosehill Woodworks is equally gorgeous.
