I knit this Aqua Peone Tee for our mom. She is too shy to model, so Tomiko is modeling here instead. The Peone Tee is a slightly cropped tee that is knit seamlessly from the top down and in the round. This is my favourite method of construction, so I was happy to knit a second!
Last summer I knit a beige Peone Tee for myself out of a 100% linen yarn. Our mom has sensitive skin and doesn’t wear too much wool, but she loved the linen fabric! So secretly, I bought this BC Garn Lino yarn from Eweknit and started knitting.
Our mom has blue eyes, so this Aqua Peone Tee will nicely complement them! She chose a blue yarn for her Hikari Tee last summer, so I thought this vibrant aqua linen yarn would also suit her.
I cast on on August 28, intending for it to be a birthday present for her the following January. Since it was a surprise present, I didn’t want to post anything about this project on Instagram. And I always had to have a visible knitting project so she wouldn’t suspect anything. While knitting this in the background, I was able to finally cast off December 12.
I knit size 6, having already measured our mom for her Hikari Tee earlier in the summer. As it’s a summer top, I intended to ensure this aqua Peone Tee wouldn’t be too tight. Again, I used 3.5 mm needles to knit this tee, instead of the 4.5 mm ones recommended. Due to my loose gauge, I normally size down my needles by about 1.0 mm. I don’t like knitting gauge swatches, and thankfully I got gauge with my needle choice. The pattern has nine sizes, from a bust of 33″ to 65.” I chose to knit size 6, which has a bust measurement of 53,” giving our mom several inches of positive ease.
The lace yoke took some concentration even though it was a simple pattern of increases and decreases. As the linen yarn doesn’t have great memory and starts out kind of stiff, I found knitting the lace yoke to be challenging. Thankfully the lace blocked out nicely, as it looked quite messy when freshly knit. Since this was my second time knitting the pattern, I found the yoke to be much easier to knit this time around.
Linen takes dye beautifully, and this aqua Peone Tee is quite bright! It’ll be a refreshing sight in the heat of summer.
Linen yarn can have the tendency to twist in a final garment, so I tried adding two mock seams to my tee. At the midpoint of each side, I added a column of purl stitches. Hopefully this keeps this tee hanging straight and along the grain. You can just see the column of purl stitches on the left side of the photo below.

Beautiful!! I’m not a knitter but you inspire me to try again – Thanks for sharing at My Big Fat Menopausal Life’s Share the Wealth party. Have a fabulous week.
I recommend trying it again! I learned once when I was a kid but it never stuck until 2018, and now I can’t stop knitting!
This is a beautiful tee in a beautiful shade of aqua. I particularly like the delicate, open work around the yoke. Hope your mom enjoys wearing it!

Thank you! Although she probably needs to wait several months for it to be warm enough to wear; Canada is cold!
Such a pretty top, you make a great model and I love the colour. Thanks for linking with #pocolo
