I knit the Attic Windows Baby Blanket by Elizabeth Sullivan from Sweet Paprika Designs. Last year I bought a kit from Sweet Paprika Designs when they were on sale. I chose the colour scheme with shades of yellow, pink, and blue. Sweet Paprika Designs offers kits in three other colour schemes.
This colourful and fun baby blanket kit is based on the traditional Attic Windows quilt pattern. The kit comes with three Crescendo gradient sets for a total of 18 x 20g mini-skeins and a PDF download of the pattern. This was my second project using a Crescendo gradient set – my first was the Rainbow Cardi by Yelena M. Dasher.
This is the second baby blanket I’ve knit – the first was for my own baby. I knit the Colorful Wedges Baby Blanket, a free pattern from Purl Soho. That blanket also entirely used garter stitch, and I also knit it in fingering-weight yarn.
The Attic Windows Baby Blanket uses a modular construction, with two options. You can either knit four strips of six squares and then seam them together, or you can knit each square onto the main part of the project. I chose to knit the latter option. After knitting the first few squares, I found that I didn’t even need to refer to the instructions. Each square uses three shades of one of the three gradients. Furthermore, each gradient makes two almost identical squares. The pattern includes a schematic on how to layout the colours. In the end, it was an fun and enjoyable knit!
